Introducing Darlene Turner…

Today, I have my new friend, Darlene Turner visiting with us. Darlene is an award-winning author who lives with her husband, Jeff in Ontario, Canada. Her love of suspense began when she read her first Nancy Drew book. She’s turned that passion into her writing and believes readers will be captured by her plots, inspired by her strong characters, and moved by her inspirational message. You can connect with Darlene at www.darlenelturner.com where there’s suspense beyond borders.

Welcome, Darlene!

Now, in order for us to get to know you a bit, I have a few questions for you to answer. The first thing I always like to know is when you’re writing, who’s in control? You or the characters?

Definitely my characters! Sometimes too much as they like to take me down rabbit holes. LOL.

Haha. I can relate to that. Now, can you tell us who are some of your favorite authors? The ones you read when you should be doing something else? And why do they appeal to you?

DiAnn Mills – she not only a friend but my mentor and has been a HUGE part of my writing journey. Ted Dekker – I love his imagination and the imagery in his novels. Steven James – he’s an amazing storyteller.

Were books an important part of your household when you were growing up?

Yes! All of my family loved to read (except my sister!). We could be found on the couch with our nose in a book.

Me too! Another important question is, why do you write?

I feel that God has called me to write. To be a witness for Him through my stories. I want to be used of Him to show His unconditional love.

Wonderful! Now, I’ve always heard that in order to be a good writer, you have to be a good reader. What’s on your current reading list?

That’s a LONG list. I just finished A Girl’s Guide to the Outback by Jessica Kate. Next up: Silent Shadows by Natalie Walters, A Firm Place to Stand by Lori Steele Altebaumer, Killer Insight by Virginia Vaughan, Lost Down Deep by Sara Davison

What was your favorite book as a child?

Any Nancy Drew book!

What is the one book no writer should be without?

Emotional Thesaurus

Oooh. That sounds like one I need to add to my resources. Can you tell us what are some of your hobbies are?

Tole painting (painting on wood surfaces), knitting, reading, watching movies

How does your spouse/significant other feel about your writing career?

Absolutely! I couldn’t have done this without my amazing spouse’s support and encouragement.

What’s your favorite movie?

Lord of the Rings!

One of my favorites, too! If your book was turned into a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?

Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman!) and Chris Pine

What is your favorite word?

Apparently, it’s “gasp.” My characters gasp a lot. A word I always need to search on! LOL

Yes, what would be do without that search tool?

Now … I heard you have a new book out. Can you tell us a bit about it?

It’s a LOVE INSPIRED SUSPENSE novel titled, Border Breach.

When drugs are smuggled across the border, it’s their duty to stop the culprits…at any cost.

Forming a joint task force, Canada border officer Kaylin Poirier and police constable Hudson Steeves have one objective: take down a drug-smuggling ring trying to sell a new lethal product. But when the smugglers come after Kaylin and Hudson, this mission becomes more than just a job. Can they live long enough to solve the case?

Mmmm. Sounds like my kind of book! I need to add it to my reading stack.
